Me3SiCl is used during polymerization of organ silicones because
a. | Chain length of organic silicone polymers can be controlled by adding |
b. | blocks the end terminal of silicone polymer. |
c. | improves the quality and yield of the polymer. |
d. | acts as a catalyst during polymerization. |
Choose the correct option:
1. | (a, b) | 2. | (b, c) |
3. | (c, d) | 4. | (a, d) |
Hint: Me3SiCl controlled the chain length of organic silicone polymer
Me3SiCl is used during polymerization of organ silicones because it controlled the chain length or organic silicone. (CH3)3SiCl gives (CH3)3SiOH on hydrolysis. The two molecules of (CH3)3SiOH combine and formed hexamethyldisiloxane.
Since this compound has no OH groups it can not polymerize any further.
Me3SiCl also blocks the end terminal of silicone polymer.
