Chlorinated synthetic pesticides are also called Organochlorine (OC) pesticides. An example is DDT. The greater use of

pesticides for high agricultural production have led to increased pollution of environmental compartments – soil, water, and

air. Pesticides are non-biodegradable. Pesticides can contaminate soil, water, turf, and other vegetation.

Hence, Both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
