What will be the ploidy of the cells of nucellus, MMC, the functional megaspore and female gametophyte?

Answers

Answer by Isha Agarwal

Nucellus , microspore mother cells (MMC), and megaspore mother cells are part of sporophyte so these are diploid cells and their ploidy is 2n while female gametophytes are part of gametophyte and ploidy is n .

The nucellar cells are diploid in nature , MMC is a part of nucellar mass , so it's also diploid , MMC undergoes meiosis to form 4 megaspores which are haploid, out of which one megaspore is functional , so functional megaspore is haploid. As the female gametophyte (also called embryo sac) is formed from the functional megaspore (n) by mitotic division, it is also haploid... however it contains 8 nuclei and 7 cells. Thank you
